Join us as a Leader In Training (LIT)

We are so happy you are interested in joining us as an Leader In Training (LIT) for our Safe Harbour Summer Camp. As an LIT you are an essential part to making the camp experience special for every camper. At Safe Harbour we are all about sharing the love of God through the message of Jesus Christ and his year through the theme of Safe Harbour. Below is a little blurb about what the camp theme will be and following that is a little about how our camp runs. If you’ve never been with us before, are moving from being a camper to leader or are coming back for another year as an LIT, we are very excited to have you.

Safe Harbour - The storms rage and the wind tosses the ship. It looks out into the dark night for safety and rest. Safe Harbour is the place our life can find rest from the raging storm. It is where we can learn what we need and resupply for our voyage. It is what gives us the courage to embrace the storms of life… the promise that there is Safe Harbour at the end of the voyage.

As an LIT you all playing with campers during breaks, whether it is at the table games or with a ball outside, in the gym running around, or in the crafts room doing some art. The important part of being an LIT is remember that you are doing things with the campers, and supporting the staff team (which you are now a part of). There are many different LIT roles. Below is a list so you can think about what would be most interesting to you.

Colour Teams - The campers move around in groups represented by different colours. These groups are where LIT’s build strongest relationships with the campers. The groups are roughly based by ages.

Chapel - At Chapel LIT’s act out the dramas for our camp, helping teach the campers the theme of each day, and singing as a team the camp songs. As an LIT with the chapel team you must be energetic and willing to help campers get to their feet to dance and sing.

Crafts - In Crafts LIT’s help campers to make a theme based piece of art they get to take home to their family. It is a time for many campers to create something they get to show off to their parents - something they are proud of. In Crafts an LIT must be patient, encouraging and supportive.

Sports - As part of the Sports team an LIT will help prepare the sports the campers will play and encourage them in their games. The LIT needs to remember the game isn’t about them, and playing to win is not always the best.

Activities - The LIT’s who are part of the Activities team help the campers build team skills and play games. The LIT must be helpful and patient with the campers as they try to play the games according to their own skill level.

Often we get asked if LIT’s get to have TUCK with the campers. They will be pleased to hear yes. The LIT’s will have a chance to get some snacks as well.

Monday and Friday are water days so LIT’s must come prepared to get wet. Please make sure they bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Staff are all required to be at the Camp for 8:15 each morning, and are free at 4:45 each day. We start each morning with a staff meeting and end each day with an opportunity to share a few words and short clean up.

A staff member will be in contact with you shortly after May 25 in response to your application.
