Pastoral Care and Funerals

Pastoral Care and Funerals

In the midst of critical illness and at the time of death, our pastor can be available to be with you and your loved ones. Please be in touch to ask for assistance. We are also available for pastoral support to those who grieve in the weeks and months following a death. Saying goodbye to someone that you love can be one of the most difficult things that you do in life. You don’t need to be a member of St Thomas à Becket to ask for help with a funeral.

Prayers can be offered near or at the time of death, in your home or in the hospital. Prayers can also be offered at the visitation in the funeral home or at the church. The funeral service or memorial service can take place at the church or at the funeral home. Committal prayers can be offered at the graveside or final resting place for the ashes. These prayers remind us of God’s abiding love for us and help us acknowledge our loss.

In planning the service, family members and friends can be involved in sharing in readings or prayers, or you may wish to have one or more people share memories (eulogies) of the deceased. Please be in touch with our priest David to explore this further either in your home or in the church office. May God be a comfort to you as you grieve the death of the one whom you love.
